The OXY clinic for the hyperbaric-medicine with headquarter in Pula, for more than 10 years offers therapeutic methods with hyperbaric oxygen and decompress therapy in clinical medicine and diving medicine.

The OXY clinic is part of international network of hyperbaric centers offering support and help to the divers.

All diving activities of Borna ship crew and its guests are monitored by special doctors’ team, which are employees of the Hyperbaric Center OXY in Pula. This doctors’ team is part of the main team in charge for giving support to all divers in the Adriatic Sea (0-24h).

The polyclinic for baromedicine Oxy was founded in Pula by the end of 1996 and in doing so it strarted the pioneering work in the development of the civil hyperbaric medicine in the Republic of Croatia. This new branch of medicine both in the world and in our country has been developing in the last 40 years. The polyclinic deals with the tratment of hyperbaric oxygenation and recomperssion therapy in the clinical medicine and the diving (decompression sickness) medicine.

Oxygen, as the most significant element without which there is no life on earth, is the basis for the scientifically established method of treatment, which is called hyperbaric oxygenation therapy (HBOT).

HBOT is inhaling of 100% medical oxygen under the increased pressure in relation to the atmospheric one, and it is carried out in for-that-purpose spacially prepared devices-hyperbaric chambers.
By inhaling clean oxygen under the increased pressure we get 20 times as much oxygen melted in plasma and in that way hypoxia (decreased) and anoxia (complete lack of oxygen in the tissues), which are the major problem of many diseases and lesions, are soon relieved or removed.
HBOT increases diffusely the quantity of oxygen in the cells, improves the blood circulation, reduces and melts the gas bubbles (in ase of gas emolism and decompression sicknesses, increases the defense abilities of an organism, enables faster healing of chronic and infected lesions, has a great effect on a large number of microorganisms, intensifies the effectiveness of a large number of antibiotics, chemotherapeutics, diuretics, antiarrhythmics and cytostatics, has an immunocorrective effect, affects strongly the deflation of swellings, increases the level of antioxydizing defence, normalizes energy-, metabolic and functional processes in the cells, raises the sensitivity of malignant cancer cells to the ionizing radiations and decreases their undesired effects, accelerates the regeneration of nerve tissue, impoves the nerve conductivity and reduces spasms, improves psychophysical condition and has an antistressful effect.

The above quoted effects of HBOT are used as an optional and subsidiary medication for many diseases and conditions defined in the indication lists for HBOT, among which the most frequent ones are:
