Funtana is a fishermen's, agricultural and tourist village on the western coast of Istria, settled between tourist towns Vrsar and Porec. This territory is spreading from Zeiena Laguna in the west till Valkanela in the south. This is the part of the istrian coast abounding with bays, peninsulas and islands. Funtana has some 1000 inhabitants. Funtana is surrounded by hilly country covered with vineyards, olive groves, fields and meadows, oak and pine forests that are frequently spreading till shoreline.
Mild Mediterranean climate even in coldest January insures average temperature of 5 grades Celsius and in warmest August 24 grades Celsius. Sea is clean and bathing season starts in May and ends in October. These climatic and natural advantages as well as being s neighbour to Central Europe had a powerful impact on tourist development. Funtana's inhabitants turned to tourism more seriously in sixties. Since then a number of car camps, hotels and significant number of accommodation in private homes have been built on the shore between Zeiena Laguna and Valkanela. Appropriate infrastructure was also constructed as well as other important commodities for thousands of tourists that spend their holidays on Funtana's shores in summer.A little tourist resort proud of its agricultural tradition, the beauty of its nature, richness of its land and sea, and of hospitality its citizens are willingly offering to their guests and for which we may freely tell any benevolent passenger that here, in Funtana he is on the fountain of friendship.
